The Wandering Tarot - XIII Death
The Brief:
"The Wandering Tarot" is an graphic illustration series I started to recreate the major arcana found in a traditional tarot deck with my own style. The inspiration was to further develop and incorporate my own branding style with a crow, while utilizing traditional elements found in each standard card. The purpose of the project is to have combine a cute interpretation on a concept that typically has a dark and mysterious reputation attached.

This entry is [XIII - Death]

The card typically depicts the Grim Reaper, and when used for divination is often interpreted as signifying major changes in a person's life.

The Solution:
In researching for this design, I wanted to maintain the skull symbolism akin to the common depiction of the grim reaper in most tarot card designs. The idea was to keep the crow in a cute, almost animated style, while contrasting the more detailed, realistic skull design.

Each of the designs start off as a rough sketch to get a general idea of where the elements should be placed. I created this concept up with a blue based color palette in mind for the shading found in the skull.
Caw your way to clarity with "The Wandering Tarot" cards - because fortune favors the brave, and the feathered!"
